Shamokin Digital Oral Interviews

Shamokin Digital Oral Interviews

Each of you will edit and produce a short (max. 8 minute) version of your interview.  You will also lightly edit the raw footage to be linked from the final Shamokin Digital Oral History website.

Your short version will also be accompanied by an introduction and contextual commentary for your interview which will be posted on the WordPress site. For the long lightly edited version, you should definitely cut out the silences (if they are not meaningful) and the “um”s and “ah”s and any interruptions (phone calls etc).

Thus each student will link two versions of the interview that was conducted. These interviews have either just audio or audio and video. Both the abbreviated version and the long version will be in mp4 format and both will be uploaded to MediaSpace (mediaspace.bucknell.edu). Once uploaded you can get an embed code which can be linked for each interview from the Digital Oral History WordPress site.

As a class, we will discuss how we want the WordPress site to look.  We need to think about the design and consider also that it won’t just be us that are using this but rather that it will be shared with the congregation in Shamokin.  Dr Diane Jakacki will be coming to class to help us with design and project execution.

For this assignment, you will be graded on:

  1. a) collaborative work,
  2. b) demonstrated knowledge of the theory of life writing;
  3. c) execution of the project
